ÇöÇàÈñ/Hyum, Heng He
Abstract
The family is the most critical important organization in human environmental interaction and a primary resource for health.
The Purpose of this study was to compare adaptability and cohesion of families with mentally ill patient and normal family in order to provide basic data to the care of the mentally ill patient when nurse established. the effective nursing intervention plan
The ,subjects for this study were 53 members of the families with mentally ill patients hospitalized in two general hospitals and one social hospital in Dae Jeon. As a comparative group, 50 normal families were selected live in Dae Jeon.
The instrument used was family Adaptability Cohesion Evaluation Scale(FACES HI) developed by Olson and wilson(1985).
Data analysis included frequency, ?2-test, t-test and ANOVA. The results of this study were as the follows
1. Test of hypothesis
1st hypothesis, "The degree of adaptability of family with mentally ill patient would be different from that of normal family", was supported(t=4.00, p=.0001).
2nd hypothesin, "The degree of cohesion of family with mentally ill patient would be different from that of normal family" was supported(t=4.00, p=.0001).
2. Among the families with mentally ill patient "structured type(33.96 %)" was the most and "chaotic type(13.21%) was the least" Among the normal families " flexible type(38.00 %)" was the most and "rigid type(2.00 %)" was the least.
3. Dividing 16 unit typologies into 3 basic group of types. "balanced types" were 26 families with mentally ill patient(49.06 %) and 30 normal families(64.00 %). "mid-range types" were 13 families with mentally ill patient(24.53 %) and normal families(22.00 %)
"extreme types" were 14 families with mentally ill patient(26.41%) and 7 normal families(14.00%).
4. Demographic variable related to the degree of family adaptability were education
level(t=2.19 p=.030), family type level(t=2.00, p=.048).
5. Demographic variable related to the degree of family cohesion was not supported.
It is concluded that adaptability and cohesion of the families with mentally ill patient are higher than those of normal families nursing assessment and intervention of families with mentally ill patient should be focus on family adaptability and family cohesion.
